Welcome readers, fellow book lovers and the curious. You’ve found my virtual office on the web, and I can guarantee you it is probably cleaner than the one I’m sitting in at this very moment, typing away. In my virtual office, there are no stacks of research books piled high, half-drunk mugs of cold Assam tea or paperwork: just fun links, a lot of information and an introduction to the writer’s mind. Have at, and enjoy!
No, I'm not talking about a favorite buttered rum or hot toddy, although those do sound appealing...I'm talking about my latest story for you, Her Sworn Enemy from Entangled. It's the last one in the Men of the Zodiac mini series for Indulgence, and like all Indulgence stories, it includes a wealthy alpha male. This one just happens to be a salvage dive operator with revenge on his agenda. Tucker is a Pisces, so naturally it had to be a story involving water. Belladonna is a girl whose family roots run deep, and the treasure they are both after is the lost ship her ancestor sailed when he was a privateer in the war of 1812. But neither of these people are truly telling the truth, and both are after the treasure for their own reasons. Curl up. soak your feet in the warm aquamarine water of the Gulf and watch the sparks fly. Happy Holidays to you all!
Admit it. Unlike other kinds of activities you might enjoy, like biking, gardening, tennis, walks on the beach, wine tastings, you don't need the perfect weather to enjoy a good book. For that matter, you don't even need special equipment (well, unless of course you are addicted to reading ebooks). And for the most part reading is still one of the most economical forms of entertainment on the planet. You can even get ebooks and magazines for free from your local library! But I digress...one of the things I love about reading is that I can do it anywhere, anytime. I hope that as summer winds down and we get into the cooler days of autumn, you'll get a chance to curl up with a great book, and perhaps try my latest release, THE GEEK BILLIONAIRE MAKEOVER, from Entangled Publishing's Indulgence line. It's the story of an image consultant bent on revenge and how she ends up falling for her very wealthy client who's not only a high-tech genius, but a bit of a Star Wars fan. I'm not sure about you, but after a whirlwind summer, I'm ready to slow the pace down a bit and enjoy reading, curled up with a cup of tea once the kids head back to school.
I love fall for a lot of reasons. The crisp snap to the air, the shuffle of leaves in all their colored glory and the smell of wood smoke in the air. But here in Washington state, fall also means it gets dark earlier each day until daylight savings hits, and then it's dark by 4 pm. It also rains. A. Lot. Both of which contribute on dark and stormy days that are perfect for curling up to read or write a great book. I get far more writing done in the darker, stormy months of the year. Right now I'm working on another story for my Shadow Sisters series set in the realm of the dark fae. I'm also getting projects in line for 2014 and 2015. In February my next book in the continuing Sons of Midnight mini series for Harlequin Nocturne will be out. It's my first book with an all werewolf hero. And I must admit it's one of my favorites. A one night stand that goes terribly wrong and takes an elementary teacher into the world of the paranormal in her own backyard. It's also the first book I've set in my home town (although I gave it a fictional name). Most of the settings in the book are things I pass by everyday on my way to the post office, or to the school to pick up kids from practice or just while driving on my way to the grocery store. I hope you'll make plans to pick up or order ONE NIGHT WITH THE SHIFTER. Until the holidays show up, enjoy these last fleeting moments of fall. I don't know about you, but I'm going to bake something.
Just in time to pack up the beach bag and head out to enjoy the sun, my latest release, a sweet and soulful contemporary romance titled THE SWITCHED BABY SCANDAL is out this month from Entangled Publishing's Bliss line. It's the first in my Scandals of San Sebastian mini-series set in the small northern California coastal town of San Sebastian. I'm warning you now, pack tissues or a hanky with this one. Any book that can make me cry when I've read, edited, re-read and re-edited it umpteen times warrants tissues. This summer I'm also working like mad on several new stories for you to enjoy including two more stories in the Scandals series, THE CLASS REUNION SCANDAL and THE SEXY DOCTOR'S SCANDAL, as well as a spicier one for Entangled's Indulgence line titled THE GEEK BILLIONAIRE MAKEOVER. I'm also working on more projects coming out in 2014 and even some that won't reach you until 2015, but trust me, they'll be worth it! Until then, I hope you have a chance to enjoy the sunshine with friends and family and make some great memories. I know that's on my to-do list! For now, go get your beach bag packed, and don't forget to pre-order THE SWITCHED BABY SCANDAL for your Nook, Kindle, Kobo or at iTunes/iBooks.
I'm so excited! Two fantastic things at once! The first is spring is one of my favorite times of year and I can tell it's really close. One thing that makes up for all the rain in the Pacific Northwest is all the amazing flowers that come out in the spring. From my office I can see the cherry and apple trees on our property in bloom and each day I look around my flower beds to see what's poked up out of the soil. Best of all, I know it's almost spring when the frogs in the wetlands on our neighbor's property start up the chorus at night. It's so loud, but incredible! The second amazing thing happening is the release of the third book in my Legend Chronicles series, THE CHOSEN. It hits shelves March 5th, and from the early reviews, readers are really enjoying this final big showdown between the Jackson brothers and the Darkin archdemon lord Rathe. It even received a 4.5 stars and Top Pick! status from RT Bookreviews magazine! I'm busy at work on some new stories for you including several contemporary romances that'll be out this summer from Entangled Publishing, and my Shadow Sisters series. One story in particular I'm having fun with is THE GEEK BILLIONAIRE MAKEOVER. I'm posting snippets of it here and there on Twitter when I can. Until next time, I hope spring brings you a wonderful sense that anything is possible.
Around here the holidays are a magical time. I love the smell of apple crisp and pumpkin pie baking and wood smoke lingering in the air outside. We have several apple trees so we have the cider we've made at our holiday table. Sometimes we'll even get snow. (It's mostly decorative and usually only lasts a few days-just long enough for the family to build snowmen and do some sledding down the neighbor's hill.) It's the perfect time of year to catch up on my to-be-read pile that's been stacking up all year. If you're looking for something to curl up with a cup of hot chocolate, check out the new HOLIDAY WITH A VAMPIRE 4. It's got not one, but four, fantastic holiday stories for you to enjoy! For those of you who are fans of my steampunk stories, I've got a present for you too! THE INVENTOR, Marley's story, is out as an ebook in January and will be in print in the back of THE CHOSEN (if you can wait that long!). You can find out about Marley's past in England, how he got involved in The Legion of Hunters in the first place, about how his hate of Lieutenant Frobisher began, his inspiration for his decoding machine Balmora and much more. Right now I'm hard at work on writing the remaining O'Connell sister stories for my Shadow Sisters series for Entangled which will start coming out in 2013 as a follow up to SHADOWLANDER, then switching gears and writing some fun contemporary stories for Entangled's Bliss line. I wish the happiest of holidays for you and yours. May your homes be filled with warmth, friends and, always love.
I know the rest of the world believes that summer begins around the summer solstice, but here in the great Pacific Northwest, we know summer doesn't officially kick off until after the fourth of July. Until then there's always a big chance of rain. But the cherries are nearly ripe on the trees in the front yard and the blueberries are close behind in the garden. I love summer! This summer is going to be extremely busy for me. Not only am I on deadline for two books (THE CHOSEN and SHADOW HUNTER), but I'm also going to be out and about. First up, I'll be at the Romance Writers of America national conference in Anaheim, Calif., July 24-29. There's a huge booksigning open to the public to benefit Literacy for Life on Wed., July 24 from 5-8 at the convention center next to the Anaheim Marriott. There will be hundreds of authors signing, so stop by! Next, I'll be hanging out with friends at Sun Lakes Resorts for a week of fun, boating and sunshine to recoop my brain. Then I'll fly out to New Orleans for the annual Authors After Dark summer camp, August 8 - 11. We're having a signing there too! It'll be from 2-4 pm on Sat., Aug. 11 with lots of authors in attendance. I may even wear my steampunk gear for that one! I'm also happy to announce that THE HUNTER scored two huge finals in recent contests! It was both a finalist in the Golden Quill and in the Bookseller's Best Award (which are both judged not by other writers but by readers, booksellers and librarians).
That sounds strangely steampunk. Or perhaps it's just because that's how my mind is functioning at the moment first because of the release of THE SLAYER out in April, my second book in The Legend Chronicles, and second, because I'm currently writing THE CHOSEN, the third book in the series, along with a super secret steampunk novella for release later this year from Zebra involving my character Marley Turlock. If you'd like to check out a recent radio interview with me at Readers Entertainment Radio click here. This month is also Steampunkapalooza over at the STEAMED blog with daily new content. Check it out! I'm basically underneath the proverbial deadline rock until June 1 with back-to-back-to-back books to write. But that makes me happy! So does the springtime froth of green appearing on the trees and the copious amounts of blossoms on the apple and cherry trees in our orchard. I love seeing how everything comes to life. Hope your spring is a wonderful opportunity for new beginnings, fun reading and happiness.
I don't know about you, but 2012 is shaping up to be a big year already. No, I'm not talking about the end of the Mayan calendar or the presidential elections—though I could understand why those might leap to mind. Thereís just a lot of things happening. First up Iím busy writing the fourth story in my Sons of Midnight mini series for Harlequin, as well as a short story for a holiday vampire Nocturne anthology for the 2012 season, and the third book in my steampunk trilogy, featuring middle Jackson brother, Remington and shape-shifter China McGee. Once those are done (sometime in April), then I get to switch gears and starting writing on the first and second full length stories in my Shadow Sisters series. My next Sons of Midnight series story, THE HALF-BREED VAMPIRE, will be out in March. Check out the cover! I just love it! In April will come the release of my next steampunk paranormal romance, THE SLAYER, featuring the eldest Jackson brother, Winchester. And of course, there will be the vampire holiday anthology out in December. There might also be one of the Shadow Sisters books released this year from Entangled, but I donít have firm dates on that yet. Iím also planning to dabble this summer on one of my favorite young adult stories thatís been patiently waiting its turn—a story about a girl who finds out sheís an elf. Itís called TAKING DOWN S.A.N.T.A. Iíve read it out loud many times to the older elementary students on literacy days and now that some of those kids are in high school, they still ask me about it when they see me volunteering at school. Iím hoping to have it done for the holidays. Iíll also be teaching a few classes online this year—check back here or sign up for my newsletter if youíre interested in finding out whatís happening when, or you can follow me on Twitter as well. Hereís wishing each and every one of you a year filled with health, wealth and happiness!
This month I've really got something to celebrate. I'm having twins! (OK, two books out on the same day, but still, for an author it's about like giving birth because it takes at least nine months to get a book out into the world!) Both THE HUNTER and SHADOWLANDER launched on Nov. 1 and I had some fantastic signings including this one at Barnes & Noble in Silverdale, Washington where lots of people came in costume!
More pictures are up over at my Facebook page. I've going to be out an about all over the place so come by and say hi!
Follow Along on the online Book Tour for THE HUNTER!
I'm thrilled with a fantastic new quote from one of my favorite authors on THE HUNTER:
"A rollicking good read...kept me turning pages until the very end." ~ Yasmine Galenorn, New York Times bestselling author
October is going to be a busy, busy month for me.First off I'm going to be speaking, at Northwest Bookfest on Oct. 1 in Kirkland, WA talking paranormal with fellow friends and phenomial authors Yasmine Galenorn, Jessa Slade and Alexis Morgan.
I'll be starting my virtual book tour with Bewitching Book Tours on Oct. 24th for THE HUNTER and be all over the world wide web handing out goodies, and answering questions, so even if you aren't in Washington you can find me.
On Oct. 26 at 6:30 pm I'll be hosting a Steampunk Costume Party and Booksigning at Barnes & Noble in Silverdale, WA with my friend and fellow author Deborah Schneider. It's a fun excuse to dress up in our steampunk finest!
I'll also be hanging out Oct. 28-30 at the Emerald City Writers' Conference in Bellevue, WA with the fantastically snarky Sarah Wendell of Smart Bitches Trashy Books.com. There's going to be a HUGE bookfair on Sat. night 4:30 to 6 pm open to the public that helps benefit a local charity, so be sure to come and visit with a number A-list of romance authors including Sherrilyn Kenyon, Cherry Adair, Yasmine Galenorn, Meljean Brook and many others!
The amazing advanced reviews I'm getting for THE HUNTER have just been off-the-chart awesome! Publishers Weekly gave it a starred rating and said, "...Meyers piles on the gee-whiz moments and eye-ball kicks...in a well-crafted eminently enjoyable story that will leave readers wanting more time with the Jackson brothers." RT Bookreview Magazine gave it 4.5 stars and a Top Pick! rating and said, "You had me at 'steampunk western." This reviewer was bowled over by the concept and thrilled...can't wait for more..." And watch for a great review is also coming in the Oct. 15th issue of Booklist (I've seen it but I don't want to steal their thunder)!
Nov. 1 is going to be doubly awesome since it's the release date for both THE HUNTER and for my brand new Shadow Sisters series with Entangled Publishing starting with the novella SHADOWLANDER. It's a fantastic dark fae urban fantasy romance with heroes that are not your average guys! See I told you things were rocking around here!
Summer is a brief but glorious time in the Pacific Northwest—and it usually starts after the Fourth of July. Seriously. Last year we wore rain coats while we set off fireworks (yes, you can have fireworks in Washington!) then shorts the next day. It's that predictable. But it's also exquisite. There's nothing like looking out over the deep blue waters crashing up against the rugged rocky coast, where the towering fir trees hover at the bluff's edge and watching bald eagles fly over. What you see in Twilight of the coast? Yeah. That. In fact we were camping about 15 miles away from Forks. Summer makes me appreciate the little things. The tang of homemade lemonade or the smoothness of iced sweet tea. The sound of kids laughing and playing in the water, jumping the waves. The warmth of the sun on my face. Those are my little rewards as I write the pages each day. Right now I'm finishing up my second book in my steampunk romance series, THE SLAYER, then I'll be writing on my first urban fantasy book in the Shadow Sister series, SHADOWLANDER. I hope your summer is filled with friends, fun and lots of the little things.
It's my birthday month, and I have a new book out from Harlequin, so yeah, I have a lot to celebrate! Right now THE VAMPIRE WHO LOVED ME, the second in my Sons of Midnight mini-series for Harlequin, is rocking the web with two five star reviews in it's first week out, plus a kick ass month-long blog tour put on by those lovely folks at Bewitching Book Tours. Want to know where in the world wide web I am today? Check it out. I'm also on deadline for not one, but two new books by the end of July (can you hear the keyboard clacking away?). The first is THE SLAYER, the second of my steampunk books in the Legend Chronicles series. The second is a novella, SHADOWLANDER, kicking off my new Shadow Sisters urban fantasy series for Entangled Publishing. So fire the mechanical simians (which is steampunk talk for raise the roof ya'll)! And come celebrate with me! P.S. If you missed the wild interview over at Romance Author Hot Spot, go check it out and find out what a Planter writer is and why I love Gamma heroes!
I don't know about you, but my mother was incredibly influential in my life and my career, literally. She was an elementary school teacher for many years and without her dedicated effort when I was in the primary grades I never would have learned how to work with my Dyslexia and learn how to read, or fallen in love with books, or learned to write! Unfortunately she's been gone for ten years, but that doesn't mean I don't think about her every time I open up a book I enjoy to read or set about writing one. One person CAN make a huge difference. So my challenge to you is, who can you help to make a difference? It may be only one other person. It might be hundreds or even thousands. But even one matters. This month promises to be a busy one for me. I'm in the middle of writing my second book for the Legend Chronicles steampunk series, THE SLAYER, and working on edits for my next vampire romance for Nocturne. I had a fabulous time speaking at the King County Library Romance Extravaganza with some amazing fellow authors from the local area including Cherry Adair, Susan Mallery, Susan Wiggs, Delilah Marvelle, Jessa Slade, and Shelli Stevens. Pictures are up over at my facebook page www.facebook.com/TheresaMeyersAuthor if you'd like a sneak peak at what we were all up to! Don't forget to check out the second installment in the Sons of Midnight mini-series, THE VAMPIRE WHO LOVED ME, out the last week of May! It's Rebecca and Achilles' story.
I absolutely love spring. It's one of my favorite seasons just because I love all the green growing things, the flowers, the birds returning, the frogs singing at night in the wetlands near our home. But this spring I'm even more excited and busy than usual. In addition to looking forward to the release of my next Harlequin Nocturne, THE VAMPIRE WHO LOVED ME, on May 24th, I also am thrilled to share that I've sold four more books! This is a brand new series called the Shadow Sisters, which looks at the world of the dark faeries (who are far more like demons and shapeshifters than your mother's glitter and starlight winged Tinkerbell types) from the lands of Shadowland and Wyldwood who are out to reclaim the world from humans. I'm still hard at work writing my second steampunk novel in The Legend Chronicles, THE SLAYER, and preparing for the release of my first steampunk novel in the series, THE HUNTER, which comes out in late October. In May I'll be participating in the Romance Extravaganza put on by the King County Library System starting at 10 am on May 7 at their Covington Branch Library in Covington, Washington. I'll also be giving a special one-day, all-day workshop at the Coeur de Boise chapter of RWA, on Saturday, May 14th. It's open to the public, but spaces are limited. Then, May 21 I'll be speaking on plotting and how I use plotting boards to plan my work at the Peninsula RWA Chapter special one-day writer's retreat at the fabulous Hotel Murano in Tacoma, Washington. Again it's an event open to all writers, check it out! If you'd like to hear a recent radio interview with me, click here!
I hope your February has been full of love, hearts and chocolate so far, but that you still have room for a little more! My Harlequin Nocturne, THE TRUTH ABOUT VAMPIRES, is out on store shelves now, even though it's marked as a March release. So if you want it, get it now before they're gone. Nocturnes are monthly releases so you have to get them while you can. If you'd like an autographed bookplate for your copy, send a Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope to:
P.O. Box 25
Port Orchard, WA 98366
I'll be on a virtual book tour during the last few weeks of February and into the month of March, as well as giving radio interviews. If you'd like to find out where I'll be and when, click here!
I don't know about you, but for me 2011 has already started off with a bang—and I'm not talking fireworks. I've been working on edits for two books (my first steampunk THE HUNTER and my second paranormal vampire romance for Harlequin Nocturne THE VAMPIRE WHO LOVED ME) as well as writing on two new books which will be finished before July. In the meantime I'm going to be teaching several writing classes online this year and speaking in a number of places. First up is a two-week class on Instant Character Development at Savvy Authors which starts Feb. 14th. We'll be covering not only how to get instant ideas on motivation and conflict from your character's name, but also look at natural plotting threads already inherent in your character and how to maximize your character in the story. February also kicks off my online blog tour for the release of THE TRUTH ABOUT VAMPIRES. I'll be giving away some fun prizes at many of them so try and stop by. The first week in March you'll also be able to find me at the Wild Wild West Steampunk Convention in Tucson, Arizona and giving a class on Steampunk at Savvy Authors which starts March 21.
