OMG, I know that dreams are possible when I talk with Janice Lynn, winner of last year’s American Title contest. I mean really real. Just like me, Janice entered a contest. Just like me she went through the voting process. I hope, just like her, I end up with a contract!
Her book Jane Millionaire hit shelves nationwide just yesterday. It’s a fun story of a television producer named Jill Davidson (AKA Jane) who should be in heaven with 12 gorgeous men at her beck and call on the hot new reality show “Jane Millionaire”, but the problem is the hottest guy, the one who really sets her off is the show’s producer, Rob Lancaster. And what happens in front of the camera is nothing compared to what happens between the takes…
I thought some insight might be helpful from Janice to see what this contest really means, so we did a short interview:
me:What was your first reaction when you found out you were entered into the American Title contest?
Janice: I entered the American Title contest with a “Why not?” attitude, never expecting to final. So, when I found out that I had been chosen I was floored, honored, and a bit scared at what lay ahead. I had no idea what I was getting into, but the contest was an amazing ride, full of ups and downs.
me: What was the most valuable thing you learned from being in the competition?
Janice: The value of friendships and networking. Although good writing is a factor in this contest, let’s face it, all the contestants wrote good books. That’s why they were chosen as finalists. I truly believe I won, not because Jane Millionaire was the best of the ten, but because I networked like crazy and so did my friends.
me: What was it like to see your book in the store for the first time?
Janice: This one is a hard one to answer. I haven’t seen Jane Millionaire in a book store yet. I meant to go to the bookstore yesterday (Jane’s release date), but my youngest son had oral surgery and going to the bookstore didn’t happen. Ask me again, tomorrow… I can, however, say that when my fabulous editor, Leah Hultenschmidt, sent me a copy hot off the press and I held it in my hands for the first time, I cried. Tears of happiness and joy and relief that it had actually gone to press and they weren’t going to call and tell me they’d changed their minds and Jane wouldn’t be coming out after all.
It’s an amazing experience to open the cover of a book and see words you wrote on the pages. A dream come true.
Thanks, Janice!
I can only hope that I get that one in a million shot like Janice! Go check out her book, Jane Millionaire, and see how dreams are possible. (You can find pictures of her experience getting her cover unveiled at the Romantic Times Convention last year at her website JaniceLynn.net.)
