The American Title 2 Countdown Begins! (Press releases optional…)

shock Holy freakin’ cow!

We’ve only got a few more days until voting for the American Title 2 Contest begins. Now while this isn’t a huge deal for most of you out there in blogland, it represents a major stress party for the eleven of us involved! I mean, what if no one goes out and votes??? Will we all be stuck in contest limbo? Or live forever in the world of the unpublished?

PLEASE, save all of us from a fate worse than anxiety on a caffeine binge and go vote at www.romantictimes.com starting Monday, Nov. 14th! Voting for the first round ends on Nov. 27th. Then we can find out who has made the cut and who hasn’t, and hopefully get back to our regular schedules while our nails grow back from being bitten to the first knuckle or lower on our digits. To find all the other lovely ladies in this contest, look under the extras / writer’s links section of my site.

In the meantime, I’ve made an executive decision. Since there aren’t many comments floating about on this blog at the present time, we’re going to up the ante.
Yep. That’s right.

I’m handing out free PR advice for writers. Since that’s my day job as president of a PR firm, Blue Moon Communications, I might as well introduce a little of the know how here to help my fellow writers. So as of today, my blog is an open forum for all things pr for the fiction writer (and of course dishing about it as writers).

Ask away. You might get lucky.

Which brings me to my current issue. Sending out press releases for the American Title Contest. I’m going to start with the all mighty press release, because it was recently suggested by the “powers that be” that we put one out there. There’s a trick to this that most authors aren’t aware of.

The fact of the matter is you can send out as many e-mails or press releases as you want. The real secret ingredient to getting it in the paper / on the radio / on television is the follow up! That’s right. PR people are professional pests, more or less. For every placement in the media we often make 10-15 additional follow up contacts via phone or email. The follow up is the hard part. It takes almost as much persistence as writing! Humm, come to think of it, you get almost as many rejections doing PR as you do writing! Scary.

That’s the tidbit today…don’t forget to ask questions if you’d like to receive answers.

Oh! And go vote!!! But not until Monday!!! grin

I voted! I would like to point out, though, that I always vote for who I think deserve to win, and in this case yours was definitely the best opening line. wink Rooting for you, Theresa!
